PENARTH Operatic and Dramatic Society (PODS) will present their latest production this October, bringing Keeping Up Appearances to the stage.

Taking on the role of Hyacinth Bucket, made famous by Patricia Routledge, will be Val Mallows, as she aims to stir childhood memories.

When we go to auntie Hyacinth's, don't forget to wipe your feet as we go in; if she gives you cake, don't get crumbs on the floor; for heaven's sake don't spill your drink.

She was the auntie with the posh sitting room that no one ever sat in, the china tea cups that you were always afraid you would smash, and the poor put-upon husband that was always your favourite uncle.

Now, 26 years after she made her TV debut, Hyacinth is making her way to Penarth.

PODS will perform Keeping Up Appearances at the Paget Rooms, opening on Wednesday, October 12 and running for four nights.

The play will reignite memories of the overbearing Hyacinth Bucket, as she bustles around the stage, imposing herself upon her family and friends.

In this stage version, Hyacinth's nervous neighbour, Emmett, is directing a play at the local village hall, and is distraught when Hyacinth inserts herself into the cast to "help him out". The comedy comes when she discovers that Onslow, Daisy and Rose are also in the play, with bigger parts.

Tickets start at just £9, and are available from 029 2071 2260, pods-penarth.org, or in person from Tenovus, Windsor Road.
