A SUCCESSFUL year for Penarth Pier and Pavilion is set to continue with additional improvements set for the Pier, Esplanade and Cliff Top.

Local contractors Port Painters are already on site at the Pier and Esplanade repainting all the railings along the Esplanade, in bright white and green, and beginning work on the refurbishment of seating and lighting columns.

Options are also being considered for new festoon lighting on the Pier and Esplanade.

The scheme includes work to enhance the existing highway layout at the junction of Cliff Hill and Marine Parade by replacing the temporary highway infrastructure, as well as refurbishing the Cliff Top car park to maximise parking opportunities. These additional works are programmed to commence on site towards mid-February.

Penarth won the coveted Pier of the Year 2014 award and these additional works are set to enhance the area further.

Additional improvement works are planned for the Esplanade, but the Vale council will be engaging with the Town Council, local residents and businesses on final designs.

Cabinet member for regeneration, Cllr Lis Burnett, said: “This investment is part of a range of initiatives to boost tourism and the continued enjoyment of the Pier, the Esplanade and the surrounding area for visitors and local residents. We’re expecting even more visitors in the coming months eager to see the UK Pier of the Year, and we want to make sure Penarth is looking its best.”
