A LLANDOUGH-based radiographer is taking on a six day trek to raise money for a hospice that cared for her mum.

Amy Voisey, who has worked as a Radiographer at University Hospital Llandough for the past 10 years, sadly lost her mum to peritoneal cancer in March 2006. Amy has signed up to take part in a six day trek in Costa Rica during April 2016 to raise funds for Marie Curie, the Cardiff and Vale Hospice in Penarth.

Amy said: “It is such an amazing charity and all the staff are fantastic. They not only look after and support the patient but also the family and friends. They were able to keep my mum as comfortable as possible and let her make her own decisions on how and where she wanted to live out her final days.”

“I just want to give back as much as possible to Marie Curie so that other people are able to get the same level of care and support. I would love to raise as much money as possible for the charity to say thank you.”

She added: “I have previously taken part in a five day cycle challenge from Vietnam to Cambodia where I covered over 200 miles to raise money. I fully embrace these challenges as the charity is very close to my heart.”

“The trek will be very tough, even harder than the cycle challenge. All money raised will go directly to the charity, I’m hoping to raise £3,300.”

Karen Jones, community fundraiser for Marie Curie based at the charity’s Cardiff and Vale Hospice, said: “Last year our doctors, nurses and carers provided specialist care to around 600 in-patients, 870 out-patients and 2,000 day care attendees at a cost of £3.9 million – and this would not have been possible without the support of trekkers like Amy, who go the extra mile to help fund our work supporting people living with a terminal illness, and their families, here at the hospice.”
