A WOMEN’S fitness centre in Penarth is hoping to support struggling families by collecting donations for the local Foodbank.

Curves, based on Arcot Street, is waiving the joining fee for new members if they bring a donation for the Tabernacle Baptist Church Foodbank service.

The fitness centre, which offers 30 minute workouts as well as a twice weekly boot camp, has been running the charity food drive for the last few years.

This year the collection will run for the whole of April.

Delyth Williams, who runs Curves Penarth, said that new members were invited to bring bags of tins and non-perishable food, while existing members were also invited to bring food donations too.

She added that they had chosen the Tabernacle Baptist Church Foodbank service as they wanted the donations to benefit the local community..

“Foodbanks are so important supporting the local community and we hope it helps all families that are struggling at the moment,” she said

“A lot of people have lost their jobs and are struggling through no fault of their own, so we want to help in any way we can.

“It could happen to anyone and I don’t think everyone realises that.”

Curves is open Monday to Friday between 8am and 2pm, and 3.30pm until 7.30pm. It is also open Saturday’s 9am until noon.
