THE pupils of St Richard Gwyn Catholic High School in Barry, which has pupils from all over the Vale of Glamorgan, have been busy planning their own commemoration of The First World War, intent on having a lasting memorial in the form of a peace garden.

The project is involving those primary schools pupils who will be future students at the only faith High school in the Vale.

On Friday, May 15 at 11.30am, pupils from six primary schools will gather to watch and take part in the celebration to open the garden, and be able to create their own peace memory to remember that much still needs to be done to ensure peace in our present world.

The history department is working hard to show those attending the link between our current streets and the addresses of those who gave their lives in the First World War while the drama department will be offering their own visualisation of the the effects of war on those who stayed at home.

The chaplaincy team will lead guests in prayer and, weather permitting, the garden will be blessed.

All members of the community are invited to join us at the school for this short commemoration of those who gave their lives for their country.
