PLANS are gearing up for the Dinas Powys Fringe Festival with two folk workshops set to be held at Murchfield Community Centre.
The workshops, led by Andy Clarke and Steve Tyler, will be starting from 11am on Wednesday, May 27, and will run throughout the day.
Steve's hurdy gurdy workshop will involve a general introduction to the instrument, a look at some tunes and sources of music - including medieval and new compositions, and answering questions. There will also be some playing of pieces and exercises for those with an instrument but the workshop is equally suitable for those who are just interested.
Andy's 'accompanying Celtic/English tunes' workshop aims to broaden accompanists' knowledge of chord usage. It is particularly useful for guitar, bouzouki, mandola and mandolin players but can be geared towards (virtually) any instrument.
Refreshments will be served during the day. There is also a folk/acoustic concert in the evening with Andy and Steve, Tom Fitton and Slipstone (Huw Chidgey and Mel Carew).
The workshops are free but places need to be booked asap so that Steve and Andy can work out timings etc.
There’s more information on the website and you can book a place by emailing or calling the box office on 07765513424
Evening Concert tickets are on sale online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/murchfieldcommunitycentre
This is a not for profit community event and any money raised goes back into the community centre for improvements and maintenance.
