ANOTHER new restaurant could be coming to Penarth after plans were lodged for a derelict site in the town centre.

Plans for a new restaurant and bar on the site of a former DVD rental store in Penarth have been submitted to the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

Brewstone, who currently have a day and night venue based in Uplands, Swansea, want to open another branch on the site of the former Blockbusters store on the corner of Windsor Road and Hickman Road.

The store, which employed six people, closed down in December 2013 as its parent company struggled to cope with competition from online streaming services, despite resisting closure on three previous occasions.

Despite rumours that Domino's Pizza were interested in the site, it has been left empty ever since but now Brewstone wants to bring a branch to the Penarth site to give the property a new lease of life.

The planning application states the intention is a change of use to a restaurant with outdoor seating area, conversion of first and second floor to seven bed flat, new shopfront, external fume extraction and staircase.

A public notice has been placed on site.

It is currently awaiting consultation responses and will go before Penarth Town Council for recommendation before being considered by the Vale of Glamorgan planning committee later in the year.
