A YOUNG girl is set to get a severe hair cut to raise money for a children's cancer charity.

Seven-year old Poppy-Jayne Boucher, who attends Albert Primary School in Penarth, aims to raise over £300 with the chop, which will take place on Saturday March 12.

She will be having 18cm off her hair and that will be donated to the Little Princess Charity.

The charity makes wigs from real hair for children who are undergoing chemotherapy, and has had support from celebrities such as Jessie J.

It has given away over 4,000 free real hair wigs to sick children across the UK and Ireland for over a decade.

Poppy-Jayne has been growing her hair for the past year and a half in preparation for the cut and hopes to raise as much as £350 next month.

She lives on Windsor Road with her mum Rebekah Boucher, who said she is "very proud" of her daughter's kindness and generosity.

She added: "I heard about the charity about 18 months ago and told Poppy-Jayne about it not expecting that she would get directly involved.

"I was originally going to be the one to do something for them but she said she wanted to. It really struck me when she said that she wanted to help because her hair will grow back but some people's won't."
