Seven glorious days of sunshine such as the summer had not been known before it graced Penarth second Holiday Week.

The Welsh National Book of Remembrance will be on display in the hall of the Council Offices, West House, Stanwell Road, Penarth, from Monday, for inspection by the public.

More than 4,000 people were watching the Donkey Derby at the peak period of Saturday afternoon and this fantastically successful effort by the Penarth Round Table is expected to net £550 all of which will go to local charities.

Despite several counter-attractions at the finale of Holiday Week, Penarth Cancer Committee succeeded in topping last year's figure for their mammoth fete, held at Windsor Gardens on Saturday.

The RNA "Uckers" match, held at the Putting Course, Cliff Walk, on Saturday, has now become accepted as an annual event at Penarth during Holiday Week.

A novel competition organised by the British Electronics Club, Penarth, raised a total of £38 for the British Empire Cancer campaign.

Bowlers from Glamorgan qualified for the British Isles championships in all three events at the tournaments held at Llandrindod Wells last weekend between the last eight competitors from the Welsh Bowling Association and the last eight from the Bowling Association of Wales.

Penarth Motor Boat and Sailing Club's activities during the Holiday Week ended with a mock battle and torchlight procession by the cruisers on Saturday evening, watched by big crowds of spectators on the Esplanade.

Cefn Mably soundly beat Price Brothers at the Athletic Field last Saturday to round off a very successful season.
