A PENARTH school has achieved successful GCSE results this year.

Pupils at Stanwell School arrived on site today to find out how they had done.

The percentage of GCSE A* grades this year was 11 per cent and overall more than 1,160 entries were graded A* or A.

The vast majority, 280 pupils, (94 per cent) achieved five or more A* - C passes and 71 per cent of the year group attained 10 or more A* - C passes with 50 pupils achieving 10 A grades or better.

The following 13 pupils were awarded 10 A* grades or more:

Annie Higgins (12 A* grades and two A grades)

Catrin Jones (12 A* grades and two A grades)

Seren Mirza-Davies (12 A* grades and two A grades)

Henry Waddon (12 A* grades and two A grades)

Lauren Ellis (11 A* grades and three A grades)

Robert Brown (11 A* grades, two A grade and one B grade)

Ffion Blunsdon (10 A* grades and five A grades)

Alexander Whitfield (10 A* grades, four A grades and one B grade)

Dan Anderton (10 A* grades and four A grades)

Isabelle Hodgson (10 A* grades and four A grades)

Max Paley (10 A* grades and four A grades)

Phalisha Valji (10 A* grades and four A grades)

Caitlin Duggan (10 A* grades and three A grades)

Dan Anderton said he felt "really good" about his results which saw him get 10 A*s and three As.

He will be studying Maths, Chemistry and Physics at Stanwell at sixth form.

Annie Higgins, Michael Conway and Robert Brown were all pleased with their results too.

Michael Conway got eight A*s and five As.

Annie described herself as feeling "chipper" and has very definitive career aspirations as following her A-levels, it is her intention to study Concept Art and Illustration at university.

She will be taking Art, German and Mathematics at A-level.

Michael said he felt good and that the hard work had paid off whilst Robert said that he got a bit nervous this morning but is happy to know his results.

Both Michael and Robert are planning to stay at Stanwell for sixth form too.

Assistant head teacher, Rebecca Connor, said she was pleased to see such large numbers of pupils achieving the required grades to return to Stanwell to follow their chosen subjects in the sixth form.

She said: "It is a delight to see the hard-work of the pupils and support given by parents and staff being rewarded with so many students achieving their potential and obtaining high grades."
