IT HAS been a wonderful day for pupils at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg after achieving exceptional GCSE results.

The school has seen an impressive 86 per cent of pupils achieve five A* to C grades, while 23.25 per cent attained five or more A* to C grades, which is an improvement of two per cent from 2015.

Also, an impressive 71 per cent of pupils, an increase of 4.1 per cent from 2015, gained five GCSEs, including Welsh or English and maths.

Megan Davies, who attained five A*s, seven As and a Distinction in Further Maths, has gained a place at Malvern College, to study the international baccalaureate.

She said: "I am so happy to be going to Malvern College, in Worchester. I did work really hard for these results and am glad it has paid off."

Bronwen Lloyd, who achieved 11 A*s, one A and a Distinction in Further Maths, now plans to study A-levels in Science and Maths.

She said: "I am thrilled with these great results. I've got into Cardiff College on a full scholarship. My aim is to work really hard and hopefully study Medicine at university."

Hywel Price, the Welsh medium school's head teacher, said: "The results are really good. I am absolutely delighted for our pupils. Teachers, governors and parents have been so supportive. The pupils have done very well and some have had very challenging circumstances but have still succeeded."
