DESIGNS for a new skate park in Barry have been publicly revealed.

The planned new park will take the place of the Richard Taylor Memorial Skatepark, named in memory of Barry-based professional British skater Richard Taylor.

Mr Taylor's family have worked closely with the council and are 'key stakeholders' in the future development of the skate park.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council partnered with the Richard Taylor Memorial Fund and Sports Wales to secure £330,000 for the new development.

Now a contract has been secured with Bendcrete Leisure Ltd. to build a bespoke, freeform concrete skate park.

Initial plans have been drawn up and the Vale council will be holding a public consultation later in the year.

Cllr Gwyn John, cabinet member for leisure, sport and well-being said: “I am delighted that the much-loved Richard Taylor Memorial Skatepark will soon be replaced by a new and exciting skate park for the community to enjoy.

"The new facility will reflect the heritage of the park while continuing Richard’s legacy into the future.

"I hope that the new provision will again become a focal point for the skating community and inspire the next generation of skaters."
