A PENARTH-BASED theatre group will be performing a stage production of Ladies Day at the Paget Rooms this month.

The Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society will bring the Royal Ascot to town from Wednesday, October 11, until Saturday, October 14.

The show will focus on the life of four fish factory workers from Hull, with one about to leave the factory to spend time with her husband.

Pearl convinces her friends Jan, a single mother, Shelley, a wannabe TV star, and Linda, who has a challenging family life, to have a girl's day out to the races for her leaving do.

After a lucky find gets them into the event, the four friends enjoy their day with their personal lives and relationships unveiled in both humorous and somewhat more heartfelt interactions.

Amanda Whittington, Writer of Ladies Day said: “I think what audiences enjoy about Ladies’ Day is that it is about ordinary life, and I mean that in the best sense of the word.

“Four ordinary women have an extraordinary experience and without wishing to give it all away, they come close to winning a huge amount of money.

“I think people enjoy seeing other people’s lives suddenly transformed in the space of a day. It’s funny and poignant and the characters are very familiar.”

The Penarth Operatic Dramatic Society has been providing entertainment for the local community for almost 100 years.

The group recently won awards for their latest productions of The Fully Monty and The Good Life at the annual Glamorgan Drama League and NODA awards.

Next year will see the society celebrating its 100th anniversary with a special programme of drama and musical productions throughout the year.

The first showing of Ladies Day at the Paget Rooms starts at 7:30 pm on Wednesday evening, tickets for the event can be booked online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/pods
