Cardiff and Vale Health Board issues the following advice for the easter bank holiday following industrial action by junior doctors.

GPs across the Vale of Glamorgan will be closed for four days during the bank holiday weekend which follows 96 hours of industrial action.

The health board have issued the following advice:

Check local pharmacy opening times: openings in Penarth and Barry  can be found here

Have a first aid kit: Most minor illnesses and injuries can be treated at home or on the go, keeping a well-stocked first aid kit will help treat illnesses quickly and easily.

On Holiday?  advice and support in Wales are available on 111 to speak to a health care provider or for urgent out-of-hours care.

Know Primary Choice: Your primary Care team is the first contact for healthcare such as GP, community pharmacy, dental and eye health services.

Have enough medication: If you are due to order your repeat prescription it may take a little longer due to the bank holiday, allow 48-72 hours for it to be processed.

A&E advice: if it is urgent but not life-threatening, call 111 for access to out-of-hours or Minor injuries unit.

A call handler will assess your condition, and a 24/7 clinician will call you to give you a time slot to attend the most appropriate service for further assessment.

999 is still available but only in a serious or life-threatening emergency.

Be Drink aware: Most people will enjoy the bank holiday with alcohol, it is important to know your limits.

It is recommended that adults should not regularly drink more than 14 units of alcohol a week.

Drink alcohol in moderation, keep yourself hydrated and know your limits, this can help to alleviate the immediate risks of heavy drinking.
