A Penarth bowling club has reached an agreement with the Vale of Glamorgan Council to continue to use a container as its base.

Penarth Belle Vue Bowling Club has been fighting to keep the club from extinction after the Vale of Glamorgan Council demolished its clubhouse and rebuilt a community centre in its place.

Members of the bowling club have confirmed that the council has given the green light to use the white container, at their Belle Vue Park bowling green until the end of this season but still need confirmation of plans for the container.

Jacqui Kempa, press officer and newest member of the Penarth Bowling Club said: “The council has only given us confirmation that we can have the white container until the end of this season.

“We need to know what their plans are for this container so that we know what we have to keep the club running and to take it forward.”

The club has plans for the future but would like more certainty from the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

She added: “Alternatively are they (Vale of Glamorgan Council) going to provide us with something else that is suitable for our use?

“Whilst we have the container until the end of the season, it would be good if the council provided us with a temporary power supply.

“It is very difficult for the bowling club to plan for our future without knowing what facilities will be available to us after the end of this season.”

The bowling club is hosting an open day on Saturday, April, 6 in a bid to increase their memberships and to get people outdoors.

The event will be a chance family of all ages to enjoy a fun afternoon with the Penarth Bowling Club filled with activities such as target bowls, outdoor skittles, raffle, cake stall and a tabletop sale.

Ms Kemp told the Penarth Times that she would like the community to attend to see how fun and friendly the sport can be.

She added: “We are a welcoming, friendly club. We play to enjoy and have fun. All members are very welcoming and will give time to new people who wish to try this game.

“We are looking to start up family fun days. We want the whole family, grandparents, parents, and children to come and have a go and have a competition amongst themselves.

“All are welcome to our open day next month as we want the community to come and try and see what it is about in a friendly, fun and welcoming environment.”

The family fun open day will be between 2pm and 6 pm at the Penarth Belle Bowling Club Green in Belle Vue Park.
