THE ladies of the Penarth Windsor club, with an influx of bowlers of some considerable ability, are now able to choose teams from a position of strength.

Indeed, this manifested itself against Penylan with a handsome 44-shot win. The club's very own 'Mary Berry,' namely Di Thomas, skipped an immensely strong rink, with Angela Hudson, Bernice Roberts and Lars White all playing their part in a 35-11 success. Likewise multiple club champion Moira Owen was fulsome in her praise of Carole Lewis, Joan Collier and Di Roper as they crushed their opponents 29-7.

Lady captain Veronica Flitney, Ann Morrish, Mags Jones and Brenda Dunlop fought tooth and nail to make it a clean sweep but just fell short in a 15-17 reverse.

Victory against Whitchurch brought another seven points, but there was nothing from a defeat at Dinas Powys and this was followed by an abandoned game at Rumney Gardens.

Meanwhile, the men gritted their teeth after the shock of the previous week's local derby, and Murch suffered the backlash as Paul Gunter's boys maintained their Munro Cup challenge with 14 points from a 105-40 win.

Barry Plastics provided the opposition in Saturday's PG1 and PG 2 games, with Windsor achieving the double.

With the PG1 side winning 87-71 and collecting 10 points, once again it was the younger players who made the difference for Windsor and Matthew Woodcock and Tony Holmes skipped their rinks to 33-13 and 26-13 victories.

Sadly the rinks of Paul Gunter and Ken McLeod appeared somewhat jaded and, therefore, not bowling to their abilities, fell by the wayside.

In an effort to get them back to winning ways, a special coaching session was headed by Alf Holmes and David Bryant, both bowlers of world renown, and the ploy obviously worked as the duo, along with ex-Llandaff veterans Mike Lloyd-Jones and Charles Burton completed a 32-8 thrashing of bowlers from Rhoose in the prestigious Alan Martin Cup two-rink competition. The other Windsor rink of Brian Rogers, Eddie Thorne, Tony Holmes and skip master Matthew Woodcock also recorded a fine 26-12 victory.

All Windsor club members, along with friends from Penarth Cricket Club and all local sportspersons, extend their love and best wishes to the gentleman who is Brian Stephens. Get well soon 'W B.' It's not the same without you.
