SULLY Indoor bowls team welcomed Blaenau Gwent to Sully Stadium on Saturday in what was going to be one of the important games of this seasons league matches.

Sully who have won their two opening league games were up against Blaenau Gwent who are favourites to win the league again this year having just failed in the play offs to gain promotion to the premiership last year. Sully would have to be at their best to win this game.

Unfortunately Sully had to make six changes to the side that beat Ogwr the previous week but were still confident of putting in a good performance. The game commenced with Sully getting a superb start and finding themselves 22 shots ahead by the fifth end with only one rink behind by just one shot.

By the tenth end the opponents had reduced the deficit to just four shots and were beginning to play well having got used to a green that is slower than their own green. Blaenau Gwent was now playing the green with full confidence and was beginning to take control and by the 15th end had overturned their deficit to lead by 12 shots.

Over the final six ends Blaenau Gwent with a number of internationals in the team showed their class to close the game out to win by 22 shots 110 – 132, with Sully taking five points to Blaenau Gwent’s 17 points.
