PENARTH Bears Basketball Club has been a hive of activity recently.

Last weekend the Pen y Garth based club hosted a tournament where the girls’ skills were pitted against the Pontypridd Panthers, Cardiff Met Archers and Porthcawl.

This fixture is the most recent in a schedule of monthly tournaments where the girls have had the opportunity to compete regularly against other girls in South Wales.

The girls currently play at Under 12s, however, the club is looking to expand to Under 14s to continue the development of the current group.

The standard of regular competition has led to Niamh Sultana being selected for the Wales Under 14’s squad, two years early.

With continued good performances other members of the club are also hoping to draw the attention of the selectors.

Niamh is hoping to follow in the footsteps of previous club member Carys Allen who has represented Wales at Under 16 and Under 18 level this year. Whilst being a member of the Cardiff Met Archers Women’s Basketball squad, Penarth Bears are also fortunate to have Carys’ services as a member of the coaching staff.

Her experience and technical knowledge have been essential in the development of the girls.

Penarth Bears Basketball Club would like to thank the parents for their continued support and to Acorn Recruitment and Viridor for their generous sponsorship, which has allowed the club to purchase playing kit and training equipment.

The club meets at 5pm on Friday evenings at Pen y Garth Sports Hall. For details please contact Dai Morgan on 02920701266.
