SULLY Centurions travelled the short distance to Barry Island to play local rivals Barry Athletic and came away empty handed, in spite of Shae Ellis' 86 not out.

Put into bat by the hosts, Centurions lost two wickets for 19 before Ellis and Santosh Singh (23) shared a half century third wicket partnership. Then wickets began to fall with regularity - 74 for three became 111 for six as the Barry bowlers strengthened their grip on the game.

Shae Ellis shared a partnership of 26 with Nick Jones (11) and Christian Bruce (5) but the innings came to a halt with the score on 174 in the 44th over. The wickets were evenly spread out among the home bowlers.

The home response was remarkable. Steve Provis (94) and Nathan Baker (79) didn't hang about as they dispatched the Sully attack to all parts of the ground. Both remained unbeaten and the target was reached with plenty of overs to spare. Bragging rights go to Barry, with Shae Ellis' batting being the only positive note for Centurions.

In the reverse fixture at Sully, the second XI were on the end of a real drubbing, after Barry had accumulated a massive score in the sunshine.

Batting first, the visitors' opening pair of Hugh Smith and Paul Murphy racked up a century partnership before Smith (61) was out LBW to Mick Fisher. However, this only brought skipper Ashley Baker to the crease and he joined in the fun by hitting a very good 79 when he was bowled by Ricky Griffet with the score on 295.

Meanwhile Murphy continued to find the boundary as he got closer to his 100. He was joined by Lee Morgan who also reached a half century as the runs kept piling up.

Murphy was eventually out for 118 when he skied a delivery from Josh Bryan and was caught by Peter Thomas. Craig Brock became the fourth man out when he was caught behind by Lewis Pyke for 14, to give Griffett his second wicket.

But that was the last breakthrough for Centurions, as Morgan (64 not out) and Dawson (14 not out) put on another 60 runs for the fifth wicket - the innings closed on a colossal 364-4.

Centurions reply got off to a spirited start with Peter Thomas and Ricky Griffett riding their luck to take the score to 38, when Griffett was bowled by Mitchell Taylor-Moore for 19. Thomas was eventually out for 34, caught off the bowling of Billy Usswald, with the score on 76.

But the only other batsman to reach double figures was Lewis Pyke (15). The story of the innings, however was the bowling of Usswald, who posted the incredible figures of six for six off eight overs, including four maidens, as Centurions were all out for 106 in the 29th over.
