PENARTH and Dinas Runners took part in their second race in the space of a week last Wednesday.

Just a few days after tackling the Caerphilly 10k they lined up on the start line of the SSSAFA 5k.

The race, the second in the three fixture series, started near the Blackweir Tavern and included two laps of Bute Park.

Several club members enjoyed personal best times, whilst others notched up their fastest times in a number of years.

Gary Brown and Richard Jackson-Hookins led from the front and spent most of the race running together.

Both spurred on by eachother they enjoyed PB's as they edged closed to breaking the illustrious 17minute barrier.

Gary was the first to cross the finish line in a club record 17.04 in 13th place.

Richard was just behind him in 17.08 in 15th place.

Chris Seal was next in a season's best 20.41.

Catherine Tailby, who won her age category, was the first Penarth woman to cross the finish line in a PB of 21.12.

Chris Nellins was next up in 21.13.

Andrea Hurman followed in 22.23.

Louise Hunt followed in 22.35.

Ruth Owens was not far behind in 22.55.

Tim Monckton was next in 24.02.

Next week, Wednesday, July 8, Penarth and Dinas Runners will be hosting the Cosmeston Relays.

The race, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, was created in memory of club member Karen Matthews who tragically died during a race.

For the first time ever this year's race will be chip timed, with runners carrying a baton around them for each leg of the race.

It comes after the huge succcess of the Porthkerry 5 earlier this year, where the club trialled chip timing for the first time.

The tag-style relay takes place over a three mile course around Cosmeston Lakes Country Park.

The figure of eight route takes in trails and paths featuring stunning views of the lakes and woodlands.

Teams are made up of four runners for the senior and masters men categories, and three runners for the ladies and masters ladies categories.

Non-running club teams, featuring three runners, also take part in the men’s, ladies and mixed categories.

There are a total of nine categories and plenty of prizes up for grabs.

Last year a record 140 teams took part and it is hoped to go one better this year.

The fee is £20 per team of four (Senior and Master Men) and £15 per team of three.

Entries are online only this year, with teams able to select their teams at www.tiny.cc/cosrelays

The race starts at 7pm.
