BETWEEN Monday, August 3 and Saturday, August 8, Penarth Lawn Tennis Club on Rectory Road played host to some of the best up and coming tennis players from Wales and around the UK.
Some 233 players entered The Penarth Open Tournament, a grade three ranking event, organised by The Vale Tennis Academy.
Players entered from all over the UK including Wrexham, Penzance, London and Lincoln.
The tournament even received entries from one player in Ireland and one from Jamaica.
Director of Vale Tennis Academy, Rob Cunningham, commented on the standard of players at this year’s event; “We consider ourselves very lucky - in only our second year - to have received a number of entries from top ranked players within the UK. Not only has this been a great showcase for the club but also a huge inspiration to our local developing players to have the opportunity to compete alongside such a talented group of individuals. We hope to build upon the success of this year and provide an even better tournament for all next year”.
Local players from The Vale of Glamorgan should also be commended, with special mention to the under 10s; Zac from Windsor LTC runner-up 10 and Under boys, Archie from Dinas Powys LTC runner-up in 8 and Under boys, Orla from Penarth LTC runner-up in 8 and Under Girls and Grace from Barry CTC winner in the 8 and Under Girls.
Results like these are very promising indeed for the future of the local stars.
