MURCH Bowling Club opened the current season on Saturday, April 16 with a Terry Nolan Day for a mixed match and an open invitation to the public to join members on the green to sample the delights that bowls has to offer.

The club was pleased to welcome those who responded and look forward to receiving them as new members in the near future.

The first event of the day was the "spider", the traditional opener, with Pat Ayres winning the bottle of whiskey, after the president of the club, Roger Mauchline, welcomed everyone to the start of the new season.

The match then continued, limited to 12 ends, and the winning rink was skip Mark Hughes, Bernard Tozer third, Alan Perry second and Peter Willis as lead, who proudly received the Terry Nolan Trophy in the evenings presentations.

The day closed with the normal buffet, enjoyed by everyone. The raffle was donated to the captain's charity.

The captains, Eileen Carryer and Terry Phillips thanked all involved in making the day so successful.

Murch Ladies lost to Fairwater in a friendly game on Tuesday, April 19, but everyone enjoyed the game played in sunshine and a very jovial atmosphere.
