Dinas Powys 1st XI travelled the short distance to Hayes Point to take on mid table Barry Wanderers on a drizzly cloudy day. Captain Lewis Clarke promptly lost the toss and Dinas were inserted on a green damp wicket, where Gordon Hannah and Jeff Mitchell opened up. Mitchell (0) was soon back in the shed losing his off pole, before Matthew Todd-Bennett (1) Joe Beames (0) and Gordon Hannah (22) lost their wickets with the score on 30-4. The recalled Curtis Wingren and evergreen batsman Asad Rivzi rebuilt the recovery. Some beautiful counter attacking batting from Wingren allowed Rivzi to settle and together they posted a masterful 150 partnership before Wingren holed out for a superb 71, silencing any doubts about his place. Zaman was bowled without troubling the scorers and Clarke's suicidal run out paved way for a 18 run cameo by Fernando which allowed Rivzi to complete his second century of a magical summer finally out for a brilliant 105, and Dinas finally bowled out for a above par 255. During the tea interval, Todd-Bennett's toes were badly bruised due to his LBW so a surprise second 'cap' was given to Ken 'The Pen' Hannah who put some of the 1st team to shame with superb sliding stops and a lethal arm to boot, sadly he gave way for a rampant Mike Lowe after 5 overs.

Captain Clarke (0-26 off 9 overs) opened the bowling with a tight line and length with Alexander Vowles (0-32 off 4) operating from the other end. But it wasn't until the spin of Fernando 'G' and the reverse swing of Saj Ali that the wickets came in abundance. Fernando bowled brilliantly with flight and guile to snare 4-7 off his 9 overs, Ali taking 3-41 off his allocation ripping the Wanderers middle order apart. There was still time for Dani Zaman to join the party with 3-28 off 8 with some beautifully bowled 'ghost balls'. Bar a last wicket stand, Barry Wanderers were bowled out for 143 with the villagers claiming a maximum 20 point victory. Dinas now 4th in the table only 8 points behind league leaders Whitchurch Heath, turn their attention to Cregaiu next week at Bryn-y-don.

The covers just about did their job at Bryn y Don enabling the 2nd XI match v title chasing Blackwood to go ahead on a damp, green surfaced with grey overcast conditions. Skipper Jason Harries, already under the weather with man-flu, duly lost the toss, and then his stumps to the 2nd ball of the match. Worse was to come as the villagers found themselves rocking at 20-3. However, Ryan Todd (58) playing with a cool head found some support with Sam Marlow (16), Kyle Hughes (14) and latterly John Clogg (39*) who with Richie Morgan (13) got the total to a respectable 189-9 off the 45 overs.

After tea, the sun came out, and made batting easier as Dinas looked for early wickets against a strong Blackwood outfit. Harries snarled a smart catch off the impressive Jack Houghton (2-50), and Sam Marlow (1-22) and Kyle Hughes bowled well, but once again catching let the home side down, as several chances ranging from easy to difficult were spilled. In the end, a combination of missed chances, and probably being about 40 runs light did for the villagers who succumbed to a 5 wicket loss.

The 3rds match against St Fagans was called off due to a waterlogged pitch at the Stags ground.

Next Saturday's Matches see the 1s at home v Creigiau (Bryn y Don 1pm) and 2s away v Rogerstone and 3s home v Cynon Valley (Common 1pm)
