THE Barry Island 10k returns this Sunday, August 6.

Popular amongst runners for its scenic route and seaside views, landmarks include Whitmore Bay, The Knap and Romilly Park.

The event starts and finishes at Barry Island, hosting the fourth and final fixture in the 2023 Run 4 Wales 10km Series.

Vale Council has highlighted which roads will be closed, with the race map and closure times highlighted.

Roads affected include Paget Road, Dock View Road, and Broad Street. See the map below for details.

Barry Island 10k elite race competitive as ever

Organisers say the elite race is looking as competitive as ever.

Dewi Griffiths, Ben Connor and Lily Partridge are the star attractions.

Griffiths will be looking to take victory in Barry and perhaps better the course record that he set in the inaugural edition of the race in 2018 with 29:48. The Swansea Harrier is the current Welsh Champion over 10km, half marathon and marathon and is rarely beaten on Welsh soil.

Connor is the fastest in the field this time around and was the winner of the Great South Run in 2022 with a swift 47:19 over 10 miles. His most recent outing over 10km came in second place with a time of 29:18 at the Podium 10km race in Barrowford last July.

The women’s race will see Lily Partridge return to racing in Wales following course record setting victories at the Helena Tipping 10km in Wrexham and at the Ogi Porthcawl 10k in early July. Prior to her recent Welsh victories, the Birchfield Harrier competed at the Mastercard New York 10k in June, finishing in a time of 33:15.
