HISTORY was made at Penarth Lawn Tennis Club which saw all seven of its teams promoted in South Wales Doubles Leagues.

One of Wales oldest tennis clubs, PLTC had a record-breaking summer on court.

The feat was completed when the ladies first team smashed Aberaeron 6-0 in a play-off for promotion to Premier 2, losing just four games in 12 sets.

PLTC teams won 58 out of 69 matches played.

Four of the seven teams won their leagues, with the others promoted as runners' up.

Four of the teams - the ladies 1st and 2nd, and the men's 2nd and 3rd teams - went through the season with just one loss each.

Club spokesman Gavin Seymour said the feat has never been achieved in the club's 140 year history.

"It's an incredible achievement for every team to win promotion," said Mr Seymour.

"The club's delighted with the performance which demonstrates how the standard of play has improved in recent years.

"It's never happened in the club's long history. In fact, I'm not aware of any club having done this."

The popular town centre club has more than 500 playing members and an active social scene.
